The eTwinning Back to School Competition is underway! In order to participate in the Back to School Competition, you need to register a project on the eTwinning platform. The first 50 teachers who register a project at the beginning of the scholastic year, will receive an eTwinning desk clock/pen holder. All projects with a Maltese teacher registered in it between the beginning of Septmeber and the end of November 2011 will be eligible to participate in a lottery with the chance to win 2 digital video cameras for the school. Participation in the lottery is automatic once the project is approved by the Maltese eTwinning National Support Service.

The European Chain Reaction 2012 is a science/art eTwinning project for primary schools wishing to create, film and upload a “Rube-Goldberg/Robert Storm Petersen-like” chain reaction. This project is both a competition and a European eTwinning collaboration. The school which uploads the most astonishing, creative chain reaction not only wins a trophy, but also wins tons of fame In the end all videos will be merged into one big cross border European Chain Reaction.
This project is founded by Michael Purves and Dave Schrauwen, and their aim is to find a partner from each country participating in eTwinning. Only 1 school from each country is allowed to participate, and Dave and Micahel are eager to add a Maltese teacher to their group!
The Maltese and Belgian NSS are looking to enhance the collaboration between the two countries. A group of teachers, forming part of the German Community in Belgium, are looking for project partners from Malta. There is a variety of projects in which Belgian and Maltese teachers can partake in, for example, language projects or projects about the environment. The working language will be English. Malta has been awarded 24 eTwinning European Quality Labels for the teachers’ outstanding work in eTwinning Projects during the past scholastic year. After two or more partners have been awarded the eTwinning National Quality Label, the project is automatically assigned a European Quality label from the Central Support Services.

As part of the Back to School Campaign, the eTwinning National Support Service is organising a seminar aimed at members of the Senior Management Team in schools. College Principals, Heads of School and Assistant Heads of School are invited to apply for this seminar, which will highlight eTwinning’s various actions and opportunities available for teachers in schools. During this seminar, two of Malta’s most experienced eTwinners – the eTwinning Ambassadors – will also be showcasing examples of good practice in eTwinning within their respective sectors (both in the Primary and in the Secondary Schools) and they will also be sharing their experience of embedding eTwinning successfully into their curricula and school life. The eTwinning National Support Service is organising two separate seminars, aimed both at beginners in eTwinning and also at those who wish to learn more about the TwinSpace, the online space available for all eTwinning projects. These seminars will be held at the eLearning Centre labs on the 10th and the 17th of November. Ms. Anna Spala, of John Kochanowskiego Secondary School nr 1 in Koluszki, Poland, is looking for a Maltese partner for her project, Meet Us and Our School. This project will focus on the students’ life, both at school and also their activities after school. The Polish students involved in the project are 14 years old, and the project will run from October 2011 till May 2012. During this project, students will be working on various ICT tools, such as blogs, emails, multimedia presentations, photos and short films.
