And the winner of the eTwinning Prizes 12-15…Health4Life, A Maltese Project!

Ms. Nathalie Scerri and Ms. Marisa Grima, together with their students at St. Theresa College, Mriehel Girls’ Secondary, have taken home the prestigious eTwinning European Prize 2013 in the Secondary Schools Category (12-15). Ms. Scerri and Ms. Grima have worked tirelessly with their pupils on the project and this can be seen in the final results.

Health4life is an ambitious project aiming to deal with various aspects of life that might affect the health of individuals. It dealt with different topics that influence an individual’s health. Topics discussed were multi-disciplinary and included: diet, exercise, cosmetics and the skin, teenage addictions (e.g. smoking, drugs, alcohol, piercings and tattoos), unprotected sex leading to STDs, digital addictions (e.g. excessive usage of computers and MP4s) and pollution.

Through this project it was possible to teach the Biology syllabus in a more creative and interesting way. Health issues also form part of other curricular syllabi, so this project served as a cross-curricular activity.  In our opinion students had fun learning and achieved better end results! Students realised that curricular subjects (such as Physics, Biology and Environmental Studies) may be integrated.

Well done to the teachers and students involved…A great honour for Malta! :)
