michelle1smAll About Us is an eTwinning project founded in October 2009. This collaboration involves three European schools from Malta, Poland and England teaching children between 4-6 years. The target of this project is to share and exchange what happens in each country, school and class. Through this project the students are going to learn how to communicate, collaborate and share their ideas with other foreign students. In the initial stages of our collaboration we also decided to create our website: http://all-about-us-project.wikispaces.com/ to embed presentations, students’ work and communicate regularly with our michelle3smeTwinning partners. We try to upload every event, holidays, outings, traditions, information about our country, school and class on our wiki. The students are active participants through the various activities that are done during this project.

Through this collaboration the students are learning to use various ICT tools such as taking photos with a digital camera, using sketchfu to build a story between the three eTwinning partners and communicate through video conferencing. During the project the students make crafts, creative drawings and different materials to exchange between them. From time to time we send a sample of the students’ work via mail packages.

We hang our work and receive material on notice boards so that parents can view all this and be informed on what their children are doing.

eTwinning Project of the Month: Interesting Places Around Me

3“Interesting Places around Me” is the name of the eTwinning project between San Gorg Preca College, Paola Primary B and Raimundo de Miguel School in Spain.

In this project our pupils are exchanging information about the village and the region they live in. They are writing about their favourite places in their village. They take photos and gather information and then use twinspace to upload their work for their counterparts to read. They have even talked about pre-historic temples, carnival and their school. In this way pupils are practising their English, learn about other cultures and enhance their ICT skills with the help of their teachers.

We tried to keep our project very close to our curriculum. We are using English as our means of communication thus our pupils are constantly using English, learning new vocabulary and enhancing their sentence structure. We have visited several historical sites in relation to Social Studies and pupils have written about them and uploaded power point presentations to show their friends what they have learnt.

21It is satisfying to see pupils work in groups and decide who is to take photos, who is to write the report and who is to make a power point presentation. We are now in the process of using Photosynth to show our Spanish counterparts our school foyer and a section of the exhibits at the Armoury at the Grandmaster’s Palace Valletta. These are the links to these Photosynths:

eTwinning Project of the Month: With Vegetables and Fruit We Grow Healthy and Cute

p1020428‘With vegetables and fruit we grow healthy and cute’ is the name of an eTwinning project between St. Theresa College, St. Venera Primary and Szkola Podsatawowa Nr 5 in Radlin Poland. In this project children from both schools are sharing healthy recipes so as to promote healthy eating. On a regular basis the children prepare simple healthy snacks. With the aid of this project the pupils are becoming aware of the variety of healthy snacks that they can prepare themselves which can replace the usual junk food. When a cooking activity takes place photos are taken and then they are uploaded in the wiki: www.doriannespagnol.wikispaces.com for our friends and family too see.

The children are happy to be part of this project and they like the fact thatmaking_healthy_appetisers2they have foreign friends. In fact during Christmas time the children exchanged Christmas cards and crafts and traditional food by post. Our Polish friends sent us apple chips and decorative rice paper and we sent them a small honey ring and two packets of ‘galletti’. For Easter we did the same thing. Once again the children exchanged Easter cards and Easter related crafts. We sent them a ‘figolla’ and they sent us healthy chocolates with yoghurt filling.

As an experienced eTwinner, Ms. Dorianne Farrugia would like to truly encourage teachers who have never tried eTwinning to pluck up the courage and try. She views eTwinning as wonderful experience to share teaching methods with a foreigner. It gives teaching and learning a whole new dimension and it is as fun for the children as it is for the teacher!

eTwinning Project: The Environment, How it Effects People’s Lives - Maltese partner wanted

oldenMs. Melahrini Papardeli  is an English teacher from Greece and has just started a project called “The Environment and How it Effects People’s Lives”.  Ms Papardeli would like to add a Maltese partner to her project.  She writes:

“As we live close to nature (we live in small villages close to a beautiful mountain) we thought to create an environmental project which includes nature, tradition, customs and of cource people’s life. We named it “The environment and how it affects peoples’ life”. We believe that peoples’ lives are effected by the environment where they live.

The project will start by describing the place where we  live and the students will collect information and photos of the most characteristic places of their towns. Then we continue by finding the jobs that peoples’ did in the past - perhaps also finding old photos. After that we will work on tradition and customs. Finaly we will try to make a conclusion about how much  the environment affects peoples’ lives.”

Ms Papardelli’s students are 10-11 years of age. If you are interested in this project, go to the Partner Finding section of the eTwinning Portal, add Ms. Melahrini Papardeli to your contacts and ask her to take part in this project.  For more information about this or other projects, contact the eTwinning National Support Service on 25982150 or by e-mail on etwinning@schoolnet.gov.mt.
